Coach Morello began his coaching career at Darien High School, working as an assistant freshman coach, but came home to the Greenwich Football Staff in 2011 where he’s been ever since. As the Freshman Team Head Coach, Morello led the team to three undefeated seasons, and was quickly promoted to the Varsity coaching staff in 2015 as the Offensive Line Coach. In 2016, he was again promoted to the Running Game Coordinator. The development of the offensive line, and the success of the running game, played a large role in the team’s victory in the CT State Championship in 2018.
Under his guidance with the offensive line from 2015 - 2018, eight Cardinal offensive linemen have gone off to play football in college across all three divisions. In his Head Coaching tenure 22 student-athletes have gone on to play collegiate football.
As a student-athlete at Greenwich High School, Morello was a twice decorated All-FCIAC and All-State selected player. He was team captain in his senior season of 2004, and was selected as a CIAC Scholar-Athlete. Coach Morello continued his athletic career at Union College where he was named All Liberty Conference for three seasons, was a Division III All East member selection, and was the team’s Offensive Most Valuable Player.
In his three seasons as Head Coach, Coach Morello has led the Cardinals to three consecutive playoff births and has remained in the GametimeCT Top 10 Football Poll since his hiring. The Top 10 streak sits at 1,255 days as of January 1st, 2023. After a quarterfinal loss in 2019, and again in 2021, the Cardinals sprinted through the 2022 playoffs capturing the 2022 Class LL State Title, receiving the #1 Team in the State of CT honor in the process. During the playoff run Morello's Cardinals outscored opponents 126- 26.
Coach Morello looks forward to continuing the beloved traditions of Greenwich Football. His coaching philosophy is to provide the greatest game in America to any student athlete with an interest, while also creating a memorable and meaningful experience for every student athlete that steps foot into Cardinal Stadium.
